A Vintage Caf Racer, Modern Engineering enters the 400cc Segment
Triumph Motorcycles India has, several days back, announced the official market introduction of the Triumph Thruxton 400, with an introductory price of 2.74 lakh (ex-showroom). Design based on the legendary 1960s Thruxton cafe racers, this new model is a mixture of old school aesthetics and new school performance levels, in an attempt to capture the younger riders, as well as the individuals enjoying the feeling of classic British designs.
The Thruxton 400 is the third creation that is based on the partnership of Triumph and Bajaj Auto, after the recent success of Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X. It uses identical 398 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine as the one sourced in 40 PS and 37.5 Nm with a 6-speed gear box and a slip-and-assist clutch. The Thruxton 400 is however setup to allow a more aggressive riding position and improved road dynamics through the clip on bars, rear set pegs and low seat height.
Aesthetically, the motorcycle will be painted all over in monochrome color, feature a shaped fuel tank with recesses just above the knees, circular LED headlamp, bar-end mirrors, and café racer design details, that make it a stylish motorcycle in the emerging 400cc market.
The bike sits on 41mm USD front forks and has an adjustable preload monoshock at the rear, clamped by a 300mm disc at the front in a radial mounted caliper and backed by dual channel ABS. It is a lightweight roadster with the kerb weight of only 170 kg.
The Triumph Thruxton 400 is available to book now, over Triumph-Bajaj dealerships in India and delivery is due to start soon. The Thruxton 400 rides in the middle of two other motorbikes, the Speed 400 as well as the Scrambler 400 X, in a bid to capture a niche of its own among the retro-modern motorbike fans.
